The challenge: The need for a modern, scalable solution

Banco BHD realized the need for a modern, scalable solution and was ready to embark on its digital transformation journey. DFX5 was tasked with building a platform for the marketing team of BHD Banco so that they can easily update and curate content that reflects on the frontend. The end product would be a robust and scalable website for their customers.

Strapi aids Banco BHD’s digital transformation to build with the vision of the future

After evaluating four different CMS options, Banco BHD decided to use Strapi with AWS in their digital transformation process. With Strapi as a modern digital stack, Banco BHD can build with the vision of the future. Strapi provides a reliable, modern and flexible platform and allows Banco BHD to develop as they go and scale up.

Azher Aleem, Software Development Engineer at DFX5, and his team engineered the project using Strapi Headless CMS for automatic updates so that BHD’s users don't have to wait for any backend operations to complete. They combined Strapi CMS with Angular for the frontend and the deployment is done using the AWS cloud using the AWS Fargate service that pulls in the Strapi docker image from a repository.

They also utilize postgres RDS database in a private sublet and its configurations are fetched from environment variables of AWS Fargate. This provides Banco BHD better maintainability, security and scalability.

One of the initiatives that his team was focused on was to build dynamic pages and link them to particular pages on the BHD website. They were able to build out quite a few templates that served various purposes. For example, if they needed to add a product card to a particular section of the webpage they could do so within a few clicks. “It’s so easy to build real-time pages using the Strapi dynamic zone component,” said Azher Aleem.

Additionally, they utilized the Strapi Media Library in order to sort all of the media which is backed by the AWS S3 bucket and serves the content through CloudFront.

They also set up external integrations that they run through Content Export & Import between environments and they use Mellisearch for the application word search.

Azher’s team also utilizes the Role Based services that Strapi offers. Since there are so many users from Banco BHD, they needed to create different roles and provide granular access to each user. Strapi allows them to assign respective roles to each user so that they only have the authority to do what they are assigned for.

They also utilize the Audit Logs within Strapi in order to search for any changes that happen throughout the applications. All of the actions are clearly listed in the Audit Logs.

Azher likes Strapi’s customization capabilities. One of the use cases he was focused on was to integrate applications via search. For example, if the user typed in a keyword in the search box on the website, all of the relevant Single Types would appear as options from the search box. To do this, DFX5 is using a pre-built word search plug-in called Mellisearch. With this integration in Strapi, they can pick out common search words and change search criteria (i.e., change the heading on a particular card).
